Timber Design

timber, long-span structures and timber-based architectural systems

Timber Design | Research and Development

Timber Design | Research and Development brings together UFO Architecture’s broader work with engineered timber, long-span structures, timber-based architectural systems and carbon-aware construction. The research explores timber not only as a low-carbon building material, but as a driver of architectural form, spatial quality, structural performance, acoustic atmosphere and fabrication logic.

Across projects in Sweden, Italy and East Asia, UFO Architecture has investigated how timber systems can support residential architecture, public buildings, concert halls, auditoria, long-span structures and complex architectural geometries. This work includes both built projects and design studies, moving between practice-based experimentation, competition proposals and technical development.

The timber research extends beyond cross-laminated timber into broader applications of engineered timber, including prefabricated components, structural timber systems, large-span roof structures, timber linings and hybrid construction strategies. In cultural and performance spaces, timber is explored for its relationship to acoustic performance, material warmth, interior atmosphere and environmental responsibility.

The work is developed through close collaboration with timber specialists, fabricators, engineers and consultants. It reflects UFO Architecture’s interest in using timber as a precise, adaptable and ecologically significant architectural medium capable of connecting design ambition with construction intelligence.
