Liantai Savoy Gateway is a luxury residential tower proposal in Shenzhen, China. Developed as an unbuilt design study, the project explores how a contemporary high-rise can establish a stronger architectural identity within one of the world's fastest-growing urban skylines while simultaneously creating a richer residential experience for its inhabitants.

The design takes its inspiration from the elegant geometry of a curved glass vessel. Rather than composing the tower as a simple extruded volume, the building is shaped as a continuously flowing form whose profile changes subtly as it rises. This sculptural approach gives the tower a distinctive presence within the city while generating variation in views, daylight and spatial experience throughout the building.

A defining feature of the proposal is its copper-tinted glass facade. The design deliberately challenges the visual monotony created by the extensive use of blue-grey curtain wall systems throughout Shenzhen. By introducing warmer colours, reflections and changing tonal qualities, the facade establishes a richer dialogue between the building, sunlight and the surrounding city. The tower shifts in appearance throughout the day, creating a more dynamic and human-centred architectural identity.

The project also investigates how facade design can contribute to environmental performance. Variations in transparency, shading and solar control improve comfort for residents while creating depth and texture across the building envelope. Rather than functioning as a uniform skin, the facade is conceived as a responsive environmental layer mediating between interior life and the subtropical climate.

Internally, the proposal explores differentiated residential environments rather than repetitive apartment stacking. Variations in plan, outlook and spatial organisation create a range of living conditions tailored to different household types and lifestyles. The project reflects UFO Architecture's broader interest in residential tower design where architecture, facade, environment and patterns of occupation are developed as an integrated system.

Liantai Savoy Gateway forms part of UFO Architecture's ongoing research into high-rise residential architecture, vertical urbanism and tower typologies that seek to move beyond the generic glass tower towards buildings with stronger environmental performance, material identity and social character.
