| UFO Architecture Team | Andrew Yau, Anna Liuzzo, Claudio Lucchesi |
| Project Status | Unbuilt design study |
| Project Year | 2009 |
| Programme | Mixed-use towers, public space, landscape connections, ground-floor activity, urban amenities and district-scale public realm |
| Design Focus | Masterplan, tower cluster, mixed-use density, public space, urban landscape, skyline identity and Volga riverfront context |
| Urban Strategy | The proposal uses a cluster of towers to create a strong urban identity while organising the ground plane as a connected public landscape of routes, open spaces and active edges. |
| Landscape Strategy | The masterplan treats landscape as the connective structure of the district, linking the tower cluster to public routes, civic spaces and the wider Volga urban context. |
| High-Rise Strategy | The towers are conceived as a coordinated vertical composition rather than isolated objects, balancing density, skyline presence, views, orientation and public space at ground level. |
| Environmental Strategy | The project explores ecological urban density through compact development, shared infrastructure, landscape integration, pedestrian connectivity and the potential for climate-responsive tower orientation. |
Cheboksary Towers is a masterplan and tower cluster design study for Cheboksary, Russia. Developed in 2009 by UFO Architecture, the project proposes a new mixed-use district on the Volga, combining vertical density, public space and landscape into a coherent urban framework.
The proposal uses a cluster of towers to give the district identity, visibility and urban density. Rather than treating the towers as independent objects, the design organises them as part of a larger spatial composition, where height, spacing, orientation and public realm work together to structure a new piece of city.
At ground level, the masterplan is conceived as a connected public landscape. Routes, open spaces, active frontages and shared amenities are organised to create a continuous urban ground plane beneath and between the towers. This allows the district to operate both as a dense mixed-use development and as a civic environment connected to the wider Volga context.
The tower cluster creates a new skyline marker for Cheboksary while also supporting a more compact and sustainable model of urban development. By concentrating programme vertically, the project preserves more of the ground plane for public space, landscape, pedestrian movement and shared facilities.
The design reflects UFO Architecture's broader research into high-rise construction, tower clusters and ecological urbanism. The proposal explores how density can be combined with landscape infrastructure, public space and environmental performance, moving beyond the isolated tower model towards a more integrated form of vertical urban district.
Cheboksary Towers investigates the potential of mixed-use high-rise development to create identity, intensity and public value within a growing city. The project positions the tower cluster as both an urban landmark and a framework for a more connected, landscape-oriented and climate-conscious district.
